Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Piedmont is committed to creating safe and inclusive environments at each of our schools.

PUSD strives to eliminate barriers to student growth and success and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment across all schools. In this setting, students are affirmed in their selves, able to appreciate the strengths and perspectives of others, and learn to collaborate effectively across differences.
Restorative Justice is a key part of our district’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

Restorative Justice is a relationship-centered approach that prioritizes strengthening our community, repairing harm and fostering accountability. By creating spaces for honest dialogue, active listening, and collaborative problem-solving, Restorative Justice empowers students, staff, and families to build trust, resolve conflicts, and nurture a culture where every member feels seen, heard, and valued.

Creating a healthy school community requires ongoing effort from everyone—staff, students, and parents.

Two school board policies anchor and guide the work of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for our district:
- Racial Equity Policy BP/AR 0415.1
The Board and Superintendent will develop and implement district-wide strategies to ensure racial equity in all aspects of the school experience—creating systems that uplift and support BIPOC students, staff, and their families.
- Educational Equity Policy BP 041
Excellence in education starts with equity. This policy affirms the value of diversity and the district’s responsibility to ensure all students—regardless of background—have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

PUSD provides several learning opportunities in K-12 to foster a healthy school community and support students. These learning opportunities are based on the foundational social-emotional curriculum at the elementary level, then expanded upon with:
- Affinity mentorship
- Assemblies
- Cultural and religious celebrations
- Inclusive classroom practices
- Implementing the use of restorative justice practices.
