Use of AI and Emerging Technologies

To best prepare students for their futures and maintain the district’s position as a leader in academic excellence, the Board recognizes the tremendous potential of emerging technologies, including AI, to:

  • enhance educational outcomes
  • provide greater access to high-quality instruction
  • prepare students for the future workforce
  • Improve operational excellence and effectiveness

PUSD aims to leverage these benefits to support student learning and success. Effective use of AI in educational practices can create more engaging, personalized, and effective learning experiences for our students and prepare them to be critical and ethical users of these tools. Emerging technologies can augment education, reduce educator administrative task load, improve efficiencies, and allow teachers more time for instruction and engagement with learners. In addition, student-facing tools have the potential to support personalized learning, increase accessibility for students with special needs, assist non-native English speakers, and foster new ideas and creativity while preparing learners for the future.

While AI holds great potential to revolutionize education, its implementation should be guided by ethical considerations, including a focus on preserving the critical human aspects of teaching and learning. The district acknowledges concerns regarding privacy, safety, and potential unintended consequences with any emerging technology.

Piedmont Unified is committed to academic excellence, including examining the value-add of artificial intelligence in a changing landscape.
