Tuesday, January 17th, 2023 - Posted in All District News District Communications

At its January 11th meeting, the Piedmont Unified Board of Education:

Approved First Reading, Board Policy 0100 – Philosophy, Goals, Objectives and Comprehensive Plans – Board discussion begins at 42:15 of meeting video.

Approved Millennium High School Banner Proposal – Through a partnership with the non-profit organization Justice Murals, Millennium High School went through a year-long iterative design process that involved incorporating student and staff designs, values and feedback. The resulting image incorporates messages about the school’s identity, history, and values. This design was shared with Justice Murals who worked with graphic artists to design and print an 80 x 80 inch banner with the design. The mural will be hung on the side of Millennium High School facing east. This is one of the two entrances to MHS and is a popular spot for MHS students to gather and eat lunch. The project will benefit anyone who will be attending school at Millennium as it will allow them to feel pride and a sense of identity in their school and claim their space. It will also help identify for the larger community that Piedmont has two distinct high schools, each with their own culture and values. See design and read full proposal & watch video of presentation (1:32:05 of meeting video).

Received Local Control Accountability Plan Communications Presentation – The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan that describes the goals, actions, services, and expenditures that public schools in California plan to use to support positive student outcomes that address state and local priorities. The LCAP provides an opportunity for local educational agencies (LEAs) like Piedmont Unified School District (PUSD) to share their stories of how, what, and why programs and services are selected to meet their local needs. The Board was given a presentation on the District’s strategy and methods for communicating elements of its Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) to the community. Watch presentation (1:42:50 of meeting video) and View slidedeck

Received 2022 California Dashboard Results Presentation – California’s accountability reporting system is known as the California School Dashboard. The Dashboard is an online tool to help communities identify strengths and weaknesses and pinpoint student groups that may need support. In its sixth year, it reports status on multiple measures of academic and school climate. The Dashboard also focuses on the state priority of closing the performance differences among student groups’ (e.g. race/ethnicity, socioeconomically disadvantaged, English learners [ELs]) performance. Based on results from the Dashboard, the CDE determines districts needing additional targeted support and improvement under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Piedmont continues to demonstrate excellence across multiple measures and was not identified as needing county or state interventions.
