At its November 9th meeting, the Piedmont Unified Board of Education:

Received Presentation – 2021-22 Results Of The California Assessment Of Student Performance And Progress (CAASPP) – The CAASPP – the California Assessments of Student Performance and Progress – is a collection of computer-based assessments in English Language Arts/Literacy, Mathematics and now, Science. The CAASPP replaced the paper-based Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program beginning in 2014. Last spring, Piedmont students in grades 3–8 and 11 participated in the 2021-22 CAASPP for English Language Arts and Math. Students in grades 5, 8, and 12 participated in the Science test “CAST”. Overall, over 87% of Piedmont students met or exceeded state standards in English Language Arts, ranking second in the state among K-12 districts. This is a gain from the 2021 administration and a return to the district’s pre-pandemic score. In Mathematics, 81% of students met or exceeded state standards (ranking 3rd in the state), similar to last year. While the Mathematics score has not rebounded to the high of nearly 87% in 2019, the percentage drop is less than the average math decline of 7% in the state. Approved Tri-School’s Plan for Student Achievement – The California Education Code requires school site councils to develop a School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The purpose of the SPSA is to create a cycle of continuous improvement of student performance and to ensure that all students succeed in reaching academic standards set by the State Board of Education. The School Plan for Student Achievement is developed with the input of all Site Council stakeholders and reflects the current educational needs of students. Approved and Adopted Resolution 10-2022-23 – Approval Of The Use Of Pupil Grant Eligibility For The Construction Of The Steam And Theater Buildings At Piedmont High School – The District has been approved, and will be reviewed and updated, for new construction grant eligibility under the Leroy F. Greene School Facility Program by the Office of Public School Construction and State Allocation Board. The application is for the new construction of the STEAM and Theater buildings at Piedmont High School. The review process has identified that the District qualifies for additional new construction funding based on current enrollment in the elementary grades. The Board must acknowledge that the use of eligibility at the elementary level for the construction of additional space created at the high school does not affect the ability for the District to “house” students in classrooms at the elementary level.
