At its October 12th meeting, the Piedmont Unified Board of Education:

Received Presentation – District Reading Benchmark Assessments and Fall Reading Data – State reading assessments are objective measures created by state policymakers for accountability purposes and measure the effectiveness of programs and curriculum. District reading benchmark assessments assess students’ progress toward end-of-year learning targets, inform teachers’ instruction, and provide valuable data for teachers and specialists to design intervention and extension lessons for students. Received Presentation – Dyslexia Awareness Month – According to the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), “Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede growth of vocabulary and background knowledge.” In recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month, the Board was provided with an update on PUSD’s response to the California Dyslexia Guidelines. Reviewed The 2022-23 Budget And Multiyear Projections Based On Information Available, Including Census Day Enrollment And Actual Employee Costs – Updated information on enrollment and personnel is incorporated into a budget update and multi-year projections for the Board as of October 6, 2022. This update incorporates the Census Day (October 5, 2022) enrollment information in the updated revenue projections.
