At its September 28th meeting, the Piedmont Unified Board of Education:

Provided Update on District Mission, Vision, and Proposed Core Values Public Forums – The Board of Education convened for a Special Board Workshop on September 16, 2022, to discuss updating Board Policy 0100 and the District’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values. The Board agreed to hold two public forums on October 11 (6:30-8:30pm) & 19 (4-6:00pm) in the Piedmont High School Student Center to give the public an opportunity to collaborate in finalizing the Mission, Vision, and Core Values. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and the wider Piedmont community are invited to attend these sessions. Input from these meetings will be compiled and factored into the final version of the statements that will come to the Board for a first reading at its October 26, meeting.

Received Update on Gender Equity/Title IX in Athletics – After engaging in a gender equity audit of the high school athletic program last year, a taskforce of staff, students and parents identified findings disadvantaging girls in participation equity and in benefits accrued to athletes. Actions were identified in response, as well as improvements to monitoring and reporting. Received Presentation on California Healthy Kids Survey – The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is an anonymous, confidential survey of school climate and safety, student wellness, and youth resiliency administered biennially to PUSD students in grades 5-12. The CHKS is part of the California School Climate and Health Learning Surveys (CalSCHLS) system, created by the California Department of Education to efficiently and cost-effectively provide school districts with quality local data. The CalSCHLS system includes: the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS); the California School Staff Survey (CSSS); and the California School Parent Survey (CSPS). Every school district in California has been required to conduct a climate survey in order to comply with the No Child Left Behind Act, Title IV. Approved the Appointment of a Student Board Members – The Board approved the appointments of Piedmont High School juniors, Siddharth Bhatia and Cleopatra Tahawi, and senior, Gianna Yan, as Student Board Members for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year. The three students will collaborate on representing the student voice to the Board and will rotate attending Board meetings.  

Approved and Adopted Resolution 07-2022-23 – Sufficiency of Textbooks and Instructional Materials. Annual Public Hearing on Sufficiency of Instructional Materials (Williams Act).

Adopted and Approved Resolution 08-2022-23 – Authorization of Assignment Out of Credentialed Area.

Heard First Reading of Revised Board Policies – 3110 – Transfer of Funds, 4030 – Nondiscrimination in Employment, and 6170.1 – Transitional Kindergarten.
