PUSD Board Hosts Workshops to Discuss District Vision/Mission/Values

Tuesday, October 4th, 2022 - Posted in All District News District Communications

The PUSD Board of Education invites the community to provide feedback on its work to update the District’s Vision, Mission and Value statements.

The Board will host a public engagement workshop meeting at the Piedmont High School Student Center:

  • Wednesday, October 19, 4-6:00pm

PUSD’s current mission and vision statements were initially adopted in 1999 and were last revised in 2011. In preparation for the District’s national search for a permanent superintendent, the Board is reviewing these statements, along with other components of the District’s philosophy, with the goal of updating them to reflect the community’s current priorities and values. At the upcoming public engagement meetings, Board members will present draft statements for the mission, vision, and value pillars – products of the Board’s work to date. The Board is seeking community input on how these statements capture who we are as a district. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and the wider Piedmont community are invited to attend these sessions. Input from these meetings will be compiled and factored into the final version of the statements that will come to the Board for a first reading at its October 26, meeting. Please RSVP for the workshops by filling out this form.

To help with the discussion at the two workshops, draft versions of the Vision, Mission and Core Value statements are below:

Draft Vision Statement:

Piedmont Unified School District students are:

  • Inspired to be courageous, equity-driven leaders.
  • Inspired to think critically.
  • Ready to take on challenges and make a difference.

Draft Mission Statement:

Our district embraces these core values in educational practice and operational strategy:

  • Integrity – We elevate honesty and ethics as the centerpiece of all that we do.

  • Academic Excellence – We aim to deliver outstanding academics that pave the way for all students to achieve mastery of content, media literacy, and cultural competency.
  • Growth-Mindset – We promote resilience, diligent work, and risk-taking as students advance along their learning journeys.
  • Curiosity – We encourage students to ask questions, explore their interests and talents, innovate, and find joy in life-long learning.
  • Community Partnership – We strive to create authentic and productive relationships among students, teachers, staff, administrators, families and community members who support the district’s mission and vision. We model collaboration, respect, and kindness.
  • Courage – We stand for taking action with purpose and resolve when doing the right thing on behalf of the public good may be difficult.
