PUSD Board Meeting Summary – January 12, 2022

At its January 12th meeting, the Piedmont Unified Board of Education:

Received COVID-19 Update – PUSD Superintendent, Randall Booker, updated the Board on the District’s COVID operations and provided a summary of vaccination numbers across the District as well as testing opportunities for students and staff. 

Heard Proclamation Celebrating School Board Recognition Month – PUSD is proud to join more than 1,000 local educational agencies in the state in recognizing the contributions of board members during School Board Recognition Month. Superintendent Booker read a Proclamation recognizing School Board members for their contributions to students and the community. 

Reviewed and Approved 2022 Piedmont Adult School Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Self Study – Millennium High School/Piedmont Adult School Principal, Shannon Fierro, presented the Board with the Piedmont Adult School’s Self Study it will be submitting to the WASC to earn its Accreditation. The Adult School chose to embark on the WASC Accreditation process in 2017, recognizing that its high school diploma students would have greater access and opportunities once their diplomas were granted from a fully accredited institution. During the process, staff discovered the components of the accreditation and self study journey have worked to transform the school for the better and brought more stakeholders to the table to help build a school that is diverse, responsive, and provides high quality learning and growth opportunities for ALL students. Approved 2021-22 Board Committee and Liaison Assignments

Approved and Adopted Resolution 18-2021-22 – Adoption of Operational Area Agreement – The Resolution states PUSD’s agreement to participate in the Alameda County Operational Area Emergency Management Organization to provide foundational policies and procedures that define how ALameda County will effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from and mitigate natural or human-caused disasters.
