Shaping Our Future – Long Range Educational Planning

Shaping Our Future: Education Planning and Priority Setting. It has been over ten years since the Piedmont Unified School District has engaged the broader community in a long‐range planning effort to help shape the future of Piedmont’s public school system. At the end of last year, the Piedmont Board of Education approached the Piedmont Educational Foundation (PEF) and asked for leadership and financial support to engage the district’s educational community in Piedmont’s “Shaping Our Future” Initiative. In response, the PEF Board awarded the district a $25,000 grant and provided two community leaders from the foundation board to serve on the Collaborative Design Team to help in the planning and community outreach. The Design Team has been meeting since late summer to do pre‐planning work in anticipation of launching the initiative this fall. Gina Bartlett from the Center for Collaborative Policy will be facilitating the planning effort.

Collaborative Planning Group: A representative group of educators, students, school support staff, administrators, parents, employee association representatives, community members, and school support group leaders will work together over the next three months to help the school district:

  • Articulate a common mission for the Piedmont Schools;
  • Develop a set of guiding principles and priorities that will help inform board policy development and decision making;
  • Continue to foster a culture of decision making in which individuals from all facets of the school district’s educational community share responsibility for addressing the needs of students today and into the 21st century.
