On Monday, May 11th, the PMS and PHS Jazz Bands, directed by Dr. Andria Mullan, performed two shows at Yoshi’s in Jack London Square. A variety of selections from the Latin, swing, and funk genres were featured throughout the evening, with many featured student soloists.
These performances raised funds to purchase instruments for the PHS and PMS Jazz Band. In the past two years, proceeds from this annual fundraiser have enabled the Piedmont secondary schools’ Jazz Band program to purchase two new tenor saxophones, baritone and tenor saxophone cases, speakers, baritone sax mouthpieces, and a variety of percussion accessories; including percussion hardware and jazz cymbals. With this year’s proceeds, the department looks to purchase a bass amp, a guitar amp, an alto saxophone, and saxophone mouthpieces. A set of flugelhorns is also on their wish list.
Due to the steady increase in PMS Band enrollment over the last couple years, there are now two Jazz Bands at the middle school. Congrats to PHS/PMS Band Teacher Andria Mullan and all of her students for their inspiring performance!
