Science Program

Science at Havens is a dynamic and exciting curriculum designed to ignite the curiosity of each student. Frequent hands-on explorations, video and text support, and field trips insure that each topic is covered over multiple modalities. Havens is fortunate to have a part time Science Specialist who helps enhance the curriculum with science expertise and many hands-on activities.

First Graders study plants, weather, compost and habitats through gardening. Second graders follow the life cycles of monarch butterflies, darkling beetles, and chicks and explore rocks and minerals in geology. Third graders experiment with matter, and energy and discover the solar system. Fourth graders learn about the complex interactions in ecosystems, design electrical circuits, and traverse the rock cycle. Fifth grade students explore chemistry by creating mixtures, solutions and chemical reactions, observe weather patterns and learn the details of their cardiovascular systems.
