| Havens Principal Search Input Survey Havens Principal Application Brochure Most recently, our Principal Tery Susman let me know that she is retiring at the end of this school year. It has been an honor to collaborate with Tery and I feel very fortunate that she has been at the helm of Havens for 21 years and in that time has built a solid foundation for our community - in terms of our new school, wonderful faculty and staff and a well-rounded curriculum for our children. She has done this in an often challenging environment, with grace and poise, keeping us all focused on the well-being of our children. We will plan a celebration for Tery at the end of the school year. I am excited about her new path and looking forward to working with her and Sara Valkonen (our HPC VP and next school year’s HPC President) as we transition to a new principal at the end of June/ early July. While this is big news and there will be a lot of speculation, it will be school-business as usual through June, for Tery. If you get a chance, stop by to say hello to her. I know she will welcome your good wishes and thoughts over the coming months. And speaking of business as usual….take a look below at What’s New, What’s Interesting and What’s Coming Up. What’s New? • Just launched - the long-anticipated Piedmont Portal (www.piedmontportal.org) for community and school related information. This dynamic, online gateway for K-12 parents and community members brings together information about the school district, community, and a multitude of support organizations for our children under one roof. Many thanks to the Piedmont Educational Foundation (PEF) and the Associated Parent Clubs of Piedmont (APCP) for your ongoing work. • The 2012/13 Calendar is available. • Re-instated Furlough Days – The APCP is working together to buy-back Furlough Days for the 2012/13 school year. Funds set aside for Program Preservation (as voted on by Parents Clubs last spring) will go toward reinstating furlough days. August 20th, 2012 will be a teacher development day and March 20th, 2013 will be a student day. • Havens Organics Launch – Did you get your order from Larraine Seiden's home across Bonita from Haven's field? If not it’s not too late to register for weekly or biweekly orders delivered on Tuesdays at 11am. Simply register online – Albert & Eve Organics website. As you register, simply remember to use your name, and Larraine’s address - 1726 Oakland Ave, Piedmont, CA 94611. If you have any issues, please contact Melissa Montalbano at melissamontalbano@gmail.com. Albert & Eve Organics will donate 20% off your produce box price to the fundraising effort. That means the smallest box gives a $4.58 donation back to your students. • Crossing guard now located at Craig and Highland, thanks to efforts from parents, Tery Susman and the District. • Piedmont School District New Child Enrollment - Thursday, March 8, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Ellen Driscoll Theater 325 Highland Ave., Piedmont, CA. |
1 Join the Havens Parents Club and/or the HPC Parent BoardYour annual membership dues entitle you to receive a copy of the School Directory, an invaluable resource that lists contact information for all students, parents and staff in the Piedmont Unified School District. You may wish to buy an additional copy for your car and office. All proceeds support your Havens Parents Club. 3 Attend the Monthly Meetings
One of the main functions of the Havens Parents Club (HPC) is to
promote communication within our school community. Mark your calendar
and plan to attend our monthly meetings. All parents are welcome! You
will receive updates from our School Board Representative, and Tery
Susman, our School Principal. Your input is valuable. This is a great
way to learn what is going on in our school. |
2 VolunteerThere are many ways to help out at Havens. For example, you could:
These are just a few of the opportunities where you can volunteer. You can become a volunteer at anytime by contacting any board representative. 4 Participate in Fundraising EffortsThe Havens Parents Club is able to augment spending on each Havens student by providing additional services no longer financed by the district or the state. This is possible because of the extraordinary efforts of the Havens parent body. The primary efforts to raise funds include the Annual Fund campaign, "Spring Fling" Auction, Hot Lunch sales, SCRIP, Gift Wrap sales, library book fairs, merchandising and the HPC membership drive. The funds are spent largely on enrichment to maintain a quality educational experience for your children. |
