All K-4 elementary classes attend one half hour vocal music
lesson per week with our Kodály
music specialist. Children sing songs and play singing games drawn from
our rich American heritage and beyond. All music is chosen for its
aesthetic value and use in building sequential musical skills which
include reading and writing music notation.
In fourth grade students experience an additional half hour lesson per
week with instrumental specialists. Each student has the opportunity to
play flute, clarinet, violin, cello, trumpet and trombone. In fifth
grade students choose an instrument or the chime choir to specialize in
for the entire year. The elementary music curriculum leads into strong
middle school and high school instrumental and vocal music programs.
