In the Math Resource program, we strive to draw upon our
students’ natural curiosity so that they view math as a meaningful
puzzle that they are capable of unraveling. Our purpose is to help
Havens School meet the needs of all its math students.
We work with students through remediation, enrichment, and whole-class
lessons. We also provide support to the classroom teachers by providing
curriculum and materials, facilitating communication between grade
levels, and working within grade levels to customize activities so they
meet the state standards. We are funded entirely by the Havens Parents’
Club.
Remediation
We provide remedial support to students who need additional experiences
and practice with the concepts they are learning in their classroom.
These groups have 4 or fewer students in them. We work closely with the
classroom teachers to pinpoint each student’s specific needs.
Enrichment
We provide enrichment for small groups of 4-6 students the lower grades
and larger groups in the upper grades. We also go into the classrooms
to teach and model lessons that extend mathematical concepts beyond the
general requirements. The goal for all of these lessons is to inspire
and challenge our budding mathematicians at Havens.
