In recent weeks the District has released information of interest to the broad educational community.

Enrollment of Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students who will enter Piedmont Schools in the fall of 2009 will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Piedmont Community Center, 711 Highland Avenue.

Last week, several members of the Piedmont education community and I went to a State-wide workshop on the Governor’s proposed K-12 Education budget for 2009-10. The impact of the current budget proposals will profoundly affect every district and child attending public schools.

On November 3rd, the day before the national election, a hate crime was perpetrated upon one of our teachers at Havens Elementary School. Specifically, a racial epithet was written on the wall outside of the teacher’s office. Although the offending word was removed within 20 minutes of being reported, the effects of this crime continue to reverberate; this event has hurt our community.

At the October 22, 2008 Board of Education meeting the Action Plan for implementation of the 2008-09 District Goals was approved.
