Board Meeting Summary – September 22nd, 2021 

 

At its September 22nd meeting, the Piedmont Unified Board of Education:

Received Presentation – Spotlight on Student Learning: Social-Emotional Health Screener Results – In the spring of 2020, PUSD began administering the BASC-3 Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) as its universal screener for social-emotional health. The student self-assessment form is administered online and is available to students in grades 3-12 to measure levels of risk in behavior, academics and social-emotional. See presentation here. Approved Second Reading, Revised Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 5141.31 – Immunizations – The revised Immunizations Policy will require families of all eligible students (age 12+) to provide proof of COVID vaccination no later than Wednesday, November 17th. Students who do not provide proof of vaccination will be referred to an Independent Study program. Students with medical exemptions will be allowed on campus and will be COVID tested on a weekly basis. Students turning 12 during the school year will have eight weeks from their 12th-birthday to provide proof of vaccination. Read full background.

Approved and Adopted Resolution 09-2021-22 – Temporary Borrowing from the Alameda County Treasury Department – Resolution allows the District to borrow money from Alameda County to meet short-term cash needs until receiving tax revenues.  

Approved and Adopted Resolution 10-2021-22 – Annual Public Hearing on Sufficiency of Instructional Materials – PUSD principals have evaluated all materials and determined students have sufficient textbooks and instructional materials for the 2021-22 school year. 

Approved and Adopted Resolution 11-2021-22 – Assignment Outside of Credentialed Area – Resolution authorizes teachers to instruct students outside of their credentialed area in subjects where they have knowledge. 

Approved Substitute Teacher Rate of Pay Increase – PUSD currently compensates its substitute teachers at a rate of $140/day. Raising the rate to $200/day brings the District in line with others in the county and will assist in recruitment. Read full background.

Conducted Public Hearing on First Reading of 2021-22 Contract Openers between the District and the Association of Piedmont Teachers (APT) – Negotiations have extended into the fall to discuss salaries and a COVID working conditions MOU. A second Public Hearing will take place on October 13th.  Read full background.

Conducted Public Hearing on Second Reading of the 2021-22 Contract Openers between the District and the California School Employees Association (CSEA) – FIrst Public Hearing was held September 13th. Looking at articles concerning Leaves and Safety Conditions. Read full background.

Approved and Adopted Resolution 12-2021-22 – Declaration of Surplus Property – Resolution authorizes District to dispose of textbooks that are no longer in use and do not align with California standards.
