Beach
School extensively uses technology as a tool in the learning
process.
- Each
classroom is equipped with three or more computers, which
are internet accessible, networked, and under eight years
in age. The goal to place four computers in each of the
upper grades, has been nearly reached. All classrooms
have a student to computer ratio of less than 10:1. This
ratio allowed our school to apply for, and receive, staff
development grants in technology, for 2001-2002, and
2002-2003.
- The
school subscribes to Worldbookonline,
an online and up-to-date version of the popular
encyclopedia. Every computer in the school has access to
this great resource and our students may also use the
resource from home.
- The
library
catalog and circulation system are automated. A six
computer mini-lab is available for research and other
projects.
- A 23
computer computer lab features eMacs, a networked laser
printer, a color laser printer and an lcd projector. The
school uses servers to store student work and
applications so children have access throughout the
school.
- In
spring 2004, the school purchased a laptop cart with 11
laptops, a printer and a wireless access point. The cart
travels to classrooms for student
projects.
- District-wide
technology features include T1 internet access, internet
filtering system, a new firewall to protect the district
network for malicious damage, and a web-based email
system for staff.
